Human Rights-Have we forgotten the vital basics of Democracy?

Charles R. Beitz said in his book,
"If the public discourse of peacetime global society, can be said to have a common moral language,it is that of Human Rights."

Two days back, it was the World Human Rights Day on the10th day of the 12th month of the calendar(We writers sometimes wish to complicate things to make it appear interesting)I got a bit late to post this, due to a busy school day and lack of time(ofcourse 24 hours of Sunday are'nt enough to melt fatigue of the entire week!)

Anyways coming to the point, Human Rights are just so very important to us, aren't they?Aren't they something interwoven into human civilisation?
Yes, they are! They have been sprinkled upon us by birth.Just imagine a day without freedom, a world completely biased against you, warfare and drudgery everywhere, and then only would you realise, how quintessential are human rights to our society.

When a child learns how to interact, the first thing that he is taught is that we all are children of God.Truly we all are children of The Almighty. He made us with all love and care, accrediting us with virtues enumerous, empowering us, and then finally giving the green light, and here, we are on this Earth!

Human Rights like equality and dignity, are something very characteristic to our biome, something all human beings will want in their niches, something very cardinal to our existence. They guarantee all human beings the most substratal requisites of life.

Well about the Human Rights Day, you all must know that it is celebrated to solemnise they day of the adoption of the UDHR or the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the UN General Assembly.

But what is important is not just recognition of a declaration, but enduring the rights mentioned in it. In the contemporary world (a world infested with social termites like poverty, trafficking etc) human rights have a very important role to play.Human Rights proclamation thus stands paramount when it comes to ensuring all my  global fellow-mates a peaceful and secure life.

We all need to develop a feeling of brotherhood within our hearts. Take the case of India-The Indian Constitution abolished untouchability 62 years back. Still it breathes in the airs of India's villages and cities. So what stands important is removing prejudices from our minds. Also we being the harbingers of a better future, must lend our voices to those people who are socially so paralysed that they cannot even claim the most basic of their requirements. So let us just put a step forward, cherishing the diversity of our species and celebrate Human existence on this wonderful terrain.

Thank You :-)

Scents Of Childhood..

I have two versions of this poem..The difference between the versions lies in the ending..One ending has been written by  me, the other is by my english teacher, Ms. Ashima Katthuria, without whose guidance these poems would not have come onto paper, and yes ofcourse the great Internet...
Here it is...

Snaking through the by-lanes of time,
I was thrown back in the past tense.
When the mind was a free leeway, sans any knots
Pre-occupied with orange flavoured candies and innocence.
When the eyes widened up at every incognito
Everything that blinged,
Shutting dowing hearing the lullabies
That mother used to sing.

Questions multifarious put up to known folks
Snakes and ladders and ant elephant jokes
Scrapped knees, bruised elbows and stained cheeks
When the hills on the lakeside were the only known peaks
When we were the kings and the neighbourhood park our territory
Fighting battles of stone paper and scissor creating no history

When happiness came wrapped in cocoa squares,
Bliss was synonymous to cotton candies at fairs
When milk was depression and toys possessions
When giggly escapades were an all-time obsession

This is my teacher's version of the end

When dolls made us fight days over days
Winning hide and seek was every victor's ace
That tingle of childhood now is once again sprouting
I see lovely greens around my surroundings
Beneath the heavy books
I hear a soft beat
This beckons me to come out and breathe
Now the rainbow and colours are more defined
For a little knowledge has made it more magnified
How great is childhood
And the innocence in its soul
Do listen to its delicate knock
It gives it everyone for sure

And here is my version of the end.....
Now those green lawns call me
And so do the fairs
My life wishes to rejuvenate
In the cool air....
I remember the hush and noise in the street.
Running after kites, life was upbeat.
The rain falls outside my room's window pane,
On the other side is a happy me dancing in the lane.
Splashing in the mudpools are my feet.
The heavens cry in joy, melting the summer heat.
The world varnished bright, by the downpour.
The rain seeping deep inside my heart's core
I dance, I hop, I sing around,
Remembering the golden days my heart pounds.
The beautiful brush-strokes in my life's colour-book
Ethereal and seraphic are the scents of childhood...

Where Is The Time To Stand And Stare?

This was the first poem I wrote, in 8th standard as much as my memory tells  me.It would always stand special to me, no matter how simple. UNEDITED, completely, here is my first poem. I was a little skeptical about posting this. But matters of heart..oh they leave you option-less.

WHERE IS THE TIME TO STAND AND STARE?

Where is the time to stand and stare,
When competition is everywhere?

Whether industries or politics,
Or take theatre and academics.

When people succeed everywhere,
Where is the time to stand and stare?

Corruption has accompanied competition.
Truth and justice require ignition.

Our talents need to be explored.
Where is the time to get bored?

When degradation is everywhere,
where is the time to stand and stare?

Making promises or giving speeches,
Or just learning what the teacher teaches,
Are not the the only things to be done,
As among us action has been taken by none.

Saving the Earth is our main objective,
For which we have to become active.

Where is the time to stand and stare?
When crime is everywhere.

Rapes, kidnaps, bribes and violence,
Tell me if terrorism is not a serious offence.

It is the time for us to unite,
To come together and fight.

Now answer me,
Where is the time to stand and stare
When modernisation is everywhere?

Imprints of spring..

When everything will speak everything but happiness,
When joy will be all around,
When iredscent will life be,
Spring will come and we shall take off from the ground

When lillies and sunflowers will smile at us,
When the breeze shall dance along-with,
When the sun will be showing thumbs up,
Spring will come and so will life's pith..

When the brook will nourish the green lawns,
And irrigate the ditches
When the vineyards will fragrate the air
Spring will come fulfilling all wishes.

When songs enumerous will fill the ears,
And sweet aroma will impregnate the air
The hues of life will tinct its line drawings
Spring will come like an answer to our prayers.

When the snow will melt away,
And so will our pains,
The winters will be gone
Spring will come and there would be love again.

Reflections by the eyes..

I can see it in your eyes
the power to change the world,
The will to change the things absurd.

I can see it in your eyes
the courage to fight,
the strength to be truthful and support who is right.

I can see it in your eyes
a heart to love
The thought of being caring and tender like a dove.

I can see it in your eyes
the capabilities to lead,
to inspire and encourage others indeed.

I can see it in your eyes
truth and respect,
for the one with jokes, the other with intellect.

I can see it in your eyes,
the choice to open closed doors,
on the way learning a lot from the wise lore.

I can see it in your eyes to crack dilemmas,
to take decisions
reviewing every clause.

I can see it in you eyes
you can show others the light
leaving no room for gloom and plight.

I can see it in your eyes
an infant revolutionary.
Just make sure you are in no hurry.

I can see it in your eyes
you can admire others,
waiting are your sisters and brothers.

I can see it in your eyes
a conquerer by personality.
In the crowd don't lose your individuality.

I can see it in your eyes,
changes for better,
improving things which really matter!

A story.."If we could love".

Most fantasies have a lasting impact on most of us. Beautiful fairies, charming princes, flowers, fortresses-all things of human desire. Here is a story that I have written, a simple commentary on MAN, his hypocrisy, and his drifting away from the cherished valued of civilisation-LOVE AND HUMANITY!

"If we could love"

My days in Nandanpur were passing like a tortoise running a marathon! When something disinterests you, time appears to run really slow! The sulky feeling of boredom had sucked every drop of the nectar of my energy.I was walking with my cousin Aditya and suddenly we stumbled upon a stone. The milieu had changed, far more beautiful than the one by default. It did not seem as if It was Earth. For a moment, I was taken aback.

I realised that we had stumbled upon a beautiful garden. We were walking in the garden, adoring its beauty, jumping around. Our thoughts were so full with the panoramic beauty, that we did not realise that some fairies had appeared and started swaying around around us. But as soon as we did, we were completely swept away by their mesmerising moves. Those fairies were just like the ones who appeared in my dreams.Sure, dreams come true!

Further, one of the fairies, the prettiest one and who seemed to be the leader or formally the queen asked a bizarre question:
"Why do you want to go back to your original world?"

It seemed that in their world, happiness on the face indicated perturbation.Well who wants to go back ma'am! We are quite comfortable here! I realised that before I could say anything, my cousin Aditya, sans any mind, replied, " I want to be the richest man in the world. I have to teach lessons to the boys who hit me, by hitting them back. I want to be with my family, with my pug! I really want to go back to Earth!"

Hey 'we' would have been better than the selfish, obsessed 'I' brother!-I exclaimed within my mind, agitated over my cousin's self-obsession. Aditya was better than me in the academic core, but beyond textbooks, he had no real knowledge. Thinking if the words that were running in my mind were too good to be true and simultaneously worrying about our return, I finally decided to vent out my thoughts.
"Because we humans endure humanity, compassion towards each other, love and honesty. We have all disregards for hatred and dishonesty and we erase any such hard feelings, colouring our hearts with the softer versions of emotions-love, respect and happiness", I said, fumbling because of nervousness and also because I wasn't thoroughly convinced, probably not convinced at all.

The queen fairy chuckled, and in the wink of an eye, we were on the banks of the Son Lake of Nandanpur.

I hadn't even completely realised what had happened, and the queen fairy swirled, swayed and flied away, just infront of me and gave in my hand a pink gem on which was engraved, LOVE!
